KITCHEN TIPS
Throughout the MADPOTS cookbook several kitchen tips are given in each of the chapter dividers. We have include a few here for your use. Feel free to add your own in our Kitchen Tips Forum below.
When you start to cook you should first read the recipe very carefully. Next, get out all the appropriate ingredients - this is particularly important when baking. MADPOTS doesn't go so far as the television personalitites and pre-measure everthing in the little cups, but we do like to everything out.
-Editor's note: measuring cups are a good idea. Grandma (M.A.D.) doesn't like to clean up much :)
Have sharp knives! We use a Chantry knife sharpener.
Do you like peeling potatoes? We don't either, so get a good peeler.
A timer is an absolute necessity. We got one of those electronic timers and by the time we punched the right button the time was up (Grandma's are always good with technology). For us, the best kind is the one with the large turn knob.
We use a wooden reamer to juice lemons, limes, etc. You just push that in the lemon half and it gets all the juice! You can do this directly over your dish or pan while cooking but watch out for the seeds. And be sure to wash the reamer right away - the pulp will harden.
